Yo-Yo Quilt Class & Award

Shew....what an evening!  LOL!  I've attached a little video about my evening at the Yo-Yo Quilt Class.  It started out very stressful but ended on a good note.

One thing that stressed me out so much was the fact that the place that we were having the class double booked events!  So I ended up having to teach my class in the entry/hallway area!  :(  I was not happy but it all worked out in the end, I guess...

I was also presented with an award!  I was NOT expecting it at all and as you can see in the photo, I was getting a little emotional as they were talking about me.
For some reason it would not let me link to the article so I just copied and pasted it.  It reads...

Thinking of a member in the community that has made a huge difference, sharing their skills and talents, enabling others to be included in the joys of her passion. This wonderful community asset wasn’t hard to decide on. Kristie Layne has shared her passion with many community members. She is a wonderful teacher and mentor when it comes to showing the art of quilting. Kristie’s passion for quilting has been made very visible in her success of making hundreds of quilts. She has worked alongside us teaching others for quite some time. Kristie has always been a text or call away when it comes to being there for her community to learn this skill. Kristie’s passions do not end there. She is also a wonderful wife and mother, daughter and sister. Kristie is very caring of her family and her community. She enjoys doing meal preparations and other various tasks. Kristie’s enthusiasm in what she does has sparked the interest of many others within the community. There have been many success stories stating “I never imagined I could do this, but with Kristie’s help I’ve accomplished so much”, “Kristie has enabled me to take my free time and turn it into a feeling of accomplishment”. The wonderful passion she loves has turned into a community of inclusions and sharing.

Snowstorm 2016 on the Farm

This is a short little video of the snowstorm here on the farm.  We ended up with 18" of snow.  I know that several places got a lot more but here in KY that is a pretty big snow.  Hunter is 13 and this is the biggest snow that he has seen.
Thank God that Richard was off the weekend and was home.  Monday morning it took him about 30 minutes to make the 1 mile trek out to the blacktop road.  When he got off work Monday night he could not make it back up the hill with the Jeep.  He did make it to my sister's house which is a mile away and she let him use their 4-wheeler to come on up the hill.

Tuesday morning he had to ride the 4-wheeler back down the 1-mile hill at 5:15am to get the Jeep and go on to work!  I'm sure that was really cold but he didn't say anything about it.  He is not one to miss work, so if he can get there he will.

I'm just hoping that I can get off this hill by Saturday because I have a Yo-Yo class scheduled that evening.  I think most other roads in the county are pretty clear now but we are usually the last place to thaw out.

Sew with me while it snows! I started a new scrap quilt called Grandmother's Choice when the snow started.  I almost have the top completed now.

We ended up with 18" so we are snowed in...

Another class and a new upcoming class

I had another hexie class or Grandmother's Flower Garden class a few weeks ago.  This class was held in the meeting room at one of the local fire departments.  It was small but we made it work anyway.  We had a full house!
Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves...
I met a few new people, some ladies that I went to high school with, some that I just knew in the community and some that knew my mom.  :)  I love living in a small town, everyone seems to know everyone.
My display quilt.  This quilt is completely hand pieced and hand quilted.  I found it at a yard sale for $10.  I was sooo happy when I found it but sad for the unknown maker.
 More of my samples....
 More samples...
I have another quilt class coming up January 30th.  It will be a Yo-Yo class.  This will be the first Yo-Yo class that I have taught.  I am so excited about this.  My Yo-Yo quilt is very special to me and I will tell you the story behind it in a later post.

I am also hoping to be able to video bits and pieces of some future classes.
