Sleeping in the sewing room....

Tuesday night I was home alone.  Richard and Andrew were both at work and Hunter spent the night with my sister.  So I spent lots of time in my sewing room.  It got rather late so I thought I would rest a few minutes and then get back to sewing.  That didn't happen...I slept all night on the sofa in my sewing room.  :)
I worked a little more on my Sweet Annie quilt.  I also spent lots of time just piddling around.  Loved every minute of it although I did miss my family.
I'm back up here today starting to sew more on my Sweet Annie quilt.  I have over half of it pieced.
I had last night's quilt cam on while I was sewing.  I got a lot done this morning.  I'm very pleased.  Now I need to go downstairs and clean so that Richard doesn't think that I just sewed all day.  :)  He is helping a friend do some work today.
Let me tell you a good one on Andrew!!!  I don't think I have ever laughed so hard.  The other evening he had a headache and asked where the ibuprofen was.  I told him and he got out 4 pills and swallowed them.  Then he said, "OH NO!"  See these two bottles.....which one do you think he took?  LOL!  Not the right one!  :)  Hehehehe!  Let's just say he was awake early the next morning!  :)
Thanks for those interested in the fabric that I have for sale.  I still have about 7 yards left, if anyone is interested.  $6.50 per yard!!!!  It is from the line, Strawberries, Blueberries, and Chocolate by Judie Rothermel for Marcus Brothers.
I'm off....I need to do some house cleaning and then spend some "special time" with Hunter as he starts school on MONDAY!!!  :(

My Sweet Annie Quilt...

I have been working on a UFO that is navy and cream but today I set it aside and pulled some special fabrics.  These lovely fabrics were sent to me from a dear friend.
I didn't want to cut into them until I decided exactly what I wanted to make with them.  I decided on this simple design that really shows off the fabrics well.  This quilt will be for ME!  I have really enjoyed cutting and sewing on it today.  I have decided to call it, "Sweet Annie"  my dear friend will never know what a comfort and joy she has been to me over the past few years.  This quilt will always remind me of her and our friendship.

The photo on my design wall is blurry so the photo is not a great one but at least you can get an idea of how it will look.  I also plan on adding a border to it.  This was the view of it from my sofa that I have in my sewing room.  I'm thinking that I will remove that round table that I have the little ironing board on.  I have plenty of room but I like the open space that I have in the middle of the room without it.  I have my big ironing board downstairs so I will bring it back up when I remove the table.  I usually have my big ironing board set up by the window.
This is another view of the room from the sofa...
Yesterday evening Richard was in the garden picking tomatoes and saw a copperhead about 10" from his hand.  He killed it with a hoe.  So thankful that the Lord was watching over him.  Shew...I hate snakes!  Leo hates them too.  He will bark and bark at them...dead or alive.  BTW...it is dead in these photos.  :)
 It measured about 30" long.
Hunter has had several rough days with his feet.  He has spent most of the time on the couch as he can't stand to walk.  It will be about a month before he gets his new inserts and I just pray that these work for him.  He has some in right now but they are his old ones.  He is a very active child or at least he wants to be.  His whole body is out of alignment because of his feet.  The xray of his spine looks like he has scoliosis, it is so crooked but it isn't.  This has messed with his feet, ankles, knees, hips and back.  He has had to take Motrin pretty much around the clock the past few days and that can't continue.  So praying that something gives for him.  I can't stand to see him not feeling like walking around.  If you remember last year he was in a boot and on crutches for a few months.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep a 12 yr old occupied and keep him off his feet???  UGH!  He is also having therapy and that is not going well for him as he is crying pretty much through all of it.  As a mother, this just breaks my heart.

I guess that is all for now...I'm heading back up to the sewing room!!!

Hunter's visit to Shriner's Hospital...

Yesterday was Hunter's appointment at Shriner's Hospital for the issues that he has with his feet.  Here is a pic that I took on the way down there.  I think he was a little nervous as he was acting goofy the whole time.  :)
After we got there and registered, we saw several different doctors and they all agreed that if possible we wanted to try to avoid surgery.  He has had a million pairs of inserts custom made but they assured me that these inserts would be completely different from anything else that he had ever had.  They took more impressions of his feet and showed me how the insert/brace works and looks.  This is something that should support his feet and arches but not be seen outside of his shoe.  I'm just praying that this works for him.  He has pain in his feet, ankles, knees, hips, and back.  Actually the xray that I have of his back looks like he has scoliosis because his feet has thrown everything off in his body.  Praying that this will all be fixed from these inserts/brace.  Since his inserts are custom made we have to go back in a month to pick them up and have any adjustments done to them.  He also has to have some therapy to try to build up some sections of his feet.  They did some physical therapy with him yesterday just to show what he will be doing.  I'm praying that this works for him.  I hate seeing him in pain and not being able to do the things that he wants to do.

I also snapped a pic of Richard while he was driving!  :)
Since this was a few hour trip for us, I took along something to keep my hands busy.  I worked on some hexies.
A few more pics of our little road trip.  Here we are turning in at Shriner's Hospital.  It had just started raining when we got there.
Hunter loves when we pass Castle Post.  Such a lovely place and it is rather huge.  Their website shows some lovely photos of the inside.  You don't see many castles in KY.  LOL!
 Another angle...

Today I am very tired and stiff.  Riding in a car sure doesn't help my hips and back but it was well worth the trip if this helps him.

Minor accident and some cleaning...

Hunter had a little minor accident yesterday evening.  Now my boys are not much for playing video games all day.  Hunter likes them but he would much rather be outside running through the hills or something.  Not too long after Richard left for work last evening, Hunter told me that he was going to go outside and make himself a slingshot.  This is nothing unusual.  A little while later he came in with his leg bleeding!  The end of his hatchet came off and hit him right on the shinbone.  I couldn't get it pulled back together or get it to stop bleeding so off to the ER to get 4 stitches!  :(  He's fine today, just a tiny bit sore.  Thank God that it wasn't worse.
I've been staying rather busy the past several days.  First of all while working on my bow ties I started playing around with some Cathedral Windows stuff.  Trying to figure out the size that I want to work with.  This is not a project that I plan on starting anytime soon, just some day.  :)
I also took some time to play around with my new girl.  This is my 1919 Singer Red Eye that I got a few weeks ago.  She sews rather well and I think I will be spending lots of time with her.  :)  I just grabbed a little stack of 2" squares and started sewing.  Not sure what they will be used for but I'm sure they will be used someday.
We've been having a few days of cooler weather so I started cleaning my sewing room.  I don't sew up there during the summer as it just gets too hot so everything gets piled up.  I also had some exercise equipment up there that needed to be moved into the workout/tanning room that we were converting bedroom #4 into.  All of that is moved out now so I could actually clean my sewing room.  This is a photo of my cutting and sewing table area...
This is my shelf that holds my books/magazines and some yardage.  I've had this bookshelf since I was 13, my brother made it for my birthday.  :)  Oh...btw...that little white machine on the shelf...it is a Singer Featherweight!  LOL!  It sure doesn't look like the old ones, does it?
Shamefully...this is the other side!  LOL!  :(  It doesn't look that bad right now as I have cleaned since I took this photo.  Actually, that is what I was doing yesterday when Hunter cut his leg.  After it is all cleaned and organized I will post more photos.

Please say a little prayer for my boys...Andrew has a little trip that he is going on tomorrow a few hours away but will be staying overnight.  Hunter has his appointment at Shriner's Hospital on Wednesday and that is also close to 3 hours away.  Also, my precious momma is having some health issues that we are trying to get under control.

Before I forget...anyone use a FITBIT?  Want to be FITBIT FRIENDS?  LOL!  I was gifted one and I am trying to make myself get at least 10,000 steps a day.  Some days I get more, some days I get less.

The small blocks are finished...

The piecing is finally finished!  Well that piecing of the small bow tie blocks, that is.  I now have a total of 1080 of these little 3" (finished) bow ties finished.
I sat down this morning and pinned together the remaining bow ties to be pieced into 9 patch blocks as that makes it easier to assemble the top that way.
I have them all pinned and in this basket ready to be pieced...
The quilt will have a total of 120, 9 patch bow tie blocks in it.  I have a few of them already pieced but I have 72 more pinned and ready to sew...
As you can see here I already have some of the blocks sewn together.  Sewing 72 more of them will take me a while but I can't wait to see it finished.
 My stack of 48 blocks...
I love this time of year when the flowers are in bloom.  I really need to thin these out a little bit as I crammed them in this space just to get them planted a few years ago.
I have a long day ahead, I have a lot of stuff outside to do and then this evening after supper, I plan on working on my bow ties!!!

1919 Singer Red Eye

Last month a family friend told me that he had an old sewing machine that his MIL was going to throw away and he wanted to know if I wanted it!  He said he would bring in down the next time that he came in to visit his parents.  He messaged me yesterday saying that he was on his way to his parents!!!  Andrew was out and about yesterday so he stopped by and picked up my new baby!

She is a 1919 Singer Red Eye!  Oh I am in love with her!  Here she is after I cleaned her up.  She still needs a little more cleaning but most of it is done.
This is the cover before the cleaning...
 And the after...
 This is the before...
 The after...
She is missing the bobbin cover so I will have to get one.  She sews wonderfully.  I good solid stitch.  No adjustments at all, she only needed cleaned and oiled.
One more photo before I end this post....  LOL!
Thanks so much for all of the nice emails and prayers for Hunter.  I know he will be fine, as his mother, I just worry.  :)  That's what we do, right?

Hunter...

If you have read my blog for a while you will know that I am a very religious person and believe in the power of prayer.  I know that there are so many kids that are worse off but my son, Hunter is having a few health issues that I need your prayers for.

Hunter has been having some testing done and we found out a couple of things.  First off, he is a little bit anemic.  Nothing too out of control but enough that something needs to be done about it.  This morning we got the results of his A1C and he is borderline diabetic, he is 2/10 of a point from being one and that is just too close not to take control of it now!!!  So over the next few weeks he has several appointments, meanwhile his whole diet has to change.
Also after several appointments with his podiatrist that has NOT worked out for him, he is being sent to Shriner's Hospital in Lexington, KY in a couple of weeks.  Hopefully, he can get the help that he needs there so that we can get him back to being active again.  Exercise will help with his other health issues but right now he can't stand to walk much at all.  If you remember last year he was in a boot and on crutches for a few months and things haven't got much better for him.  Not to make it sound like he can't stand to walk because he can, but he can't stay on his feet like a lot of kids his age.  For example, tomorrow he wants to go in town and watch the parade.  He may be fine while there but by the time we get home he will be down the rest of the night with pain, swelling, ice packs...etc.  The same thing happens when we go to the grocery store, he will be on his feet for an hour and will be down the rest of the evening.  Not a good thing for a 12 yr old.

As a mother it makes me sad that he has to deal with this stuff and the pain with his feet.  I just wish that I could snap my fingers and make it all better for him.  I may not be able to do that but I know that the Lord can help him.

The Cutting Is Finished!

I have finally finished the cutting of the last 155 bow ties!  Now to just get them pieced!  I am sewing downstairs now as it is too hot upstairs.
I have them all ready to sew and in the basket by my machine!  I hope to get most of them sewn tomorrow and then start piecing more of them into larger blocks.  BTW...the handsome man in the photos laying behind my basket, is my brother, John.  :)  I was sorting through some photos for mom.
I pieced most of these on my 1933 Featherweight but I guess I will finish them up on my Singer 328K Style-O-Matic. She is a good sewing little machine.  She sits in the corner of my dining room and I used her a lot last summer when it was too hot upstairs.
Off to bed soon and hopefully lots of sewing tomorrow!!!
