Sneaking back in....

I'm just going to sneak back in...  It has been so long since I posted and I missed it but life has just been so busy and crazy that it seemed like I never had a chance.  :)  It would be too hard for me to catch you up on everything and show a bunch of quilts so I will just start off from here.  :)

Here is a pic of a fun summer quilt that I pieced for myself!  :)  I actually have it quilted now but it's still on the longarm as there are a couple of places that I need to fix before removing it.  I had a couple tension issues that I didn't see right off.  Not a big deal and probably would not be noticed but I still want to fix it.  This quilt ended up being 73x73 and I thought it would be a fun summer quilt to use for picnics, take to the lake or even the beach.
I had my nephews for a few days and they love being in my sewing room so I gave them the job of taking the pins out.  :)  I had quilted a quilt and just cut the backing off in a hurry instead of taking the pins out.  :)  Is that child labor?  LOL!  They enjoyed it.  :)  These are my brother's 2 boys.  They stayed with me for 2 days and now they are at mom's for a few days.  It's nice to spend time with them.
A couple other things from the past few days...  Look at the size of my blackberries!!!  These are Kiowa Blackberries that we planted a few years ago.  I have to say that these are the best tasting ever.  They are sweet and very juicy.  We also have a bunch of wild blackberries and raspberries too.  Actually they are just now starting to ripen up.  Richard was off work yesterday and he picked 3 quarts of blackberries and a quart of raspberries.  There will a bunch more in a few days.  I made a blackberry cobbler yesterday and the rest went in the freezer.
Here is a pic of the lake that I snapped a few days ago.  This is the boat ramp area which is 2 miles from the house.  Richard and I were there at the edge of dark.  There is something so peaceful about water.
Today is going to be a busy day for me.  Hunter has an appointment at 11:45am for his Hep A shot.  KY schools have made it mandatory for all students now to have the shot by June 30 or they can't start school.  This is a 2 part shot and they have to have the second shot in December.  Soooo....his appointment at 11:45am.  Then I have to stop by an elderly lady's house in town and give her and her daughter some quilting quotes.  She is in her late 80's so I will stop by instead of her having to come to me.  After that I am meeting my mom, sister, and my niece and nephews at the lake for some fun in the water.  :)  Mom promised the kids she would take them to the lake while they were visiting.  Now when I say visiting, they only live 20 minutes away.  LOL!  Then... I have to meet my SIL back in town somewhere around 5:30pm.  She is coming down from Ohio and has some stuff for me to pick up.  I'll post about that stuff in my next post.  :)  So it will be a full day for me.  Not to mention I need to be back home and fix Richard's supper before 8pm.  :)

Back to quilting.... I hope to get the Sailboat quilt off the longarm one day this weekend.  I am also piecing on 2 more quilts.  Both of them are 2-color quilts.  One is blue and white and the other is red and white.  The red and white is a modern quilt, I think this is the first for me.  I am a very traditional quilter so I am stepping out of my box a little.  Expect pics of both this weekend.

I'm off to get my morning chores done as Richard just left for work.

I finished the gifts just in time....

Chantal's baby shower was Saturday and it when very well!  She was tired but very happy and excited with all of the friends and gifts.  Here is the cake that was made by Chantal's grade school teacher for her shower.
I finished up my sewing at around midnight Friday night!  LOL!  Nothing like waiting until the last minute to finish things.  Here are the gifts that I made for baby Addison.

First up...the puff/bubble quilt...
I made 25 hair bows!  I bought this hair bow holder at Hobby Lobby 50% off and it cost me $8.  It worked out well to clip the hair bows on.
Modern 4-patch flip backed with minkee.
Colorful Scraps quilt made with pindot fabrics.
 Pink polka dot Chevron quilt....
 10 Flannel burp cloths...
55 suckers!!!!  These were party favors.  :)
It was a great day!  We had lots of fun with friends and family.  She got a ton of wonderful gifts!  She has 7 more weeks to go!!!!   In the end, Chantal, mom and I were all exhausted!  LOL!  Now that I have all of this baby stuff finished up I can get back to working on something that is NOT PINK!  LOL!  I would like to finish assembling my bow tie top but, today I will try to finish painting the nursery!  :)

Baby Quilt #1....quilted

First of all, I would like to thank you all for the encouraging comments and emails on my last post.  It is hard to completely change your eating habits and exercise but as I mentioned due to health reasons I really have to stick with it.  Shew...trust me, it is NOT easy but I'm doing it.  :)

I actually got some sewing done!  :)  I quilted this baby quilt that will be a gift for my sister at her baby shower on the 28th of this month.
I think she will really like it.  :)  I did get the binding finished after taking this photos.  I did the binding in the darker pink.
I did a simple stipple/meander on it.  Nothing fancy but I just needed it quilted so that I could move on to another one.
I quilted another one Saturday, I will post about it next time.  That's 2 down and 2 more to quilt and that is not counting the puff/biscuit quilt that I am still working on.  I also need to paint the nursery for her.  I think mom is going to help me.  Then my sister decides that she wants one wall painted with chevrons!  :(  I told her that she was killing me!  LOL!  My sister ordered the bedding for the crib and has all of the wall decor bought too.  Mom and I are going to paint the nursery and I am going to paint the chevron wall and mom is going to sew the valances for the two windows.  A ton of things to do but it is sooooooo worth it!

My sister is doing well so far with her pregnancy.  She is 30 yrs old and this is her first child.  We are all very excited.  Chantal has a slight heart condition so the doctors are watching her closely.  So far everything is great, she is just extremely tired.  Of course, it is normal to be exhausted during a pregnancy but the doctor said that her medication and heart condition just drains her energy.  She is still working 40 hours a week.  She goes today for another echocardiogram.  We are praying that the results come back good.  Her due date is April 20th.

Fabric Shopping...

Yesterday I did something that I have not done in a long time....I went fabric shopping!  LOL!  I have pretty much been working out of my stash since 2009 but with my sister having a baby girl in a few months I needed to pick up a few things.  I don't have any of this in my stash.

I picked up some pink minky to match this quilt.  Now it just needs to be quilted and the binding done.  I have leftover fabric from the top for the binding.
I'm sure that you can tell that my sister loves pink!  I picked this up for the border of my Colorful Scraps quilt that I am in the process of piecing.  A hot pink mini dot.
This larger hot pink dot will be a small chevron quilt.  I already had the white so I didn't buy it.  When I got home I realized that they had cut me more than I asked for, 1.5 yards extra to be exact.  I checked my receipt and called back to Hobby Lobby and they thanked me for calling and told me to just keep it after I offered to pay for it over the phone.
I mentioned in a previous post that my sister also wanted a puff/biscuit quilt.  These are the fabrics that I picked out for that.  She is doing the nursery in owls so I thought this would be nice.
I started cutting out some squares from the fabric and put them up on the wall.  It's all very busy to me but she likes this stuff.
I could not sleep last night so I got back up and cut the rest of the blocks.  I still need to cut the backing squares which I will probably do today so that I can get started.
I have also been working on these.  These are my break from all of the bright funky fabrics.  LOL!  If you have read my blog for a while you will know that I don't tend to work with modern/bright fabrics.  :)
I guess that is all for now.  It is another cold day here in KY.  Hunter only had 2 days of school this week and that was his first week back after Christmas Break.

Pink Baby 4 Patch Flip!

Last night I finished up my blocks for the pink modern 4 patch flip.  I'm pretty pleased with it.
These modern quilts are way out of my box but I am pleased with it.  This is for my new niece coming in April.  My sister decorates her home in warm, traditional tones of beige and browns BUT I've noticed that she has been buying some boutique baby clothes and they are all made out of modern type fabric so I thought this would be nice.
I sent a photo to my sister of the quilt last night and she loved it or at least said she did.  LOL!
Later today I hope to work on my Grand Illusion quilt.  I am behind on the steps so I hope to get caught up a little on it.  Sometime this morning I need to go to the grocery store.  :(  I hate going but it is needed.  One of the doctor's that Richard works with gave him 8 GALLONS of gourmet popcorn so I need to get something else to snack on other than this!  LOL!  Right now I am munching on the chocolate swirl.

Catching up...

First off, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  We sure did, I have nothing to complain about, we have been very Blessed.  First I want to share a photo of my gift from my brother and SIL.  A Jim Shore sewing machine!!!  Is this a perfect gift for me or what?  :)  I love it!
I also received a few more precious ornaments that I will post photos of when I take the tree down which will probably happen tomorrow after Church.

I have even turned my sewing machine on the past few days but that is all about to change!  I need to get caught up on the Bonnie Hunter mystery and I also picked up some fabric today.  I can't tell you when the last time that I bought fabric as I can't remember but today I stopped by Hobby Lobby while we were out buying Richard some shoes for work.  I have a new precious niece that will be here in April so I need to get some baby quilts done!  These fabrics are way out of my comfort zone but I guess sometimes that is a good thing.
Before I leave I wanted to share a photo that Andrew sent me on Christmas day.   :(  I was so sad that he wasn't home for Christmas but with his new job it was just impossible.  He is somewhere on the Mississippi River right now.  I thought he looked so sad in the photo but he said he was just tired.  Love him so much and I am so very proud of him.
I guess that is all for now.  I'll be back tomorrow to show some progress on my mystery quilt and my new baby quilt.
