Hexies, Birthdays, and a little Jazz

Still taking it easy and not doing too much.  Here is my progress so far on this hexie quilt.  It sure seems like I should have more done.  LOL!  These are 1" hexagons.
I have a few hundred more prepped but I'm needing more variety in it.  I know this looks like a lot of hexagons but there are several of each.  I really need to try to dig though some scraps to add some variation.
A pic of my 1919 Singer Red Eye.  This is one of my favorite machines and it sews wonderfully.  I've had it for a while but I had Hunter to bring it downstairs for me and put it on the old school desk so that I could see it better.  :)
My baby boys turns 13 today!  Shew...time flies!  With 4 ultrasounds they told me that I was having a "girl" imagine my surprise when he came out a "boy"  LOL!  I thought Richard was going to pass out!
Here he is at 11 months old, trying to look sweet.  :)
This in one of my favorites...oh how he loved that horse.  I still have it.
Here he is at the age of 3.  We were heading out to watch Richard ride bulls....shew...I'm glad those days are over.  That made me nervous but of course Hunter loved it.
And last but not least...we lost our little Jazzy last night.  He had a long history of seizures and had not been feeling well this past week.  Hunter was pretty emotional last night.  I felt so sorry for him.  Shew...the boys loved Jazz so much and I do hate that he is gone but man he was a 4lb firecracker that at times made me want to pull my hair out!!!  LOL!
I guess that is all that I really have to blog about today.  I think I'm going to head back to bed, Richard just left for work.  Oh and say a little prayer for Andrew today.  He is traveling and that always worries me.  He is on his way to the beach with his aunt on his dad's side.  He had vacation time and she invited him to go, all expenses paid so he was excited to go.  LOL!

My day...

As I type this, I am sitting on the front porch watching it rain...it feels so nice out here with just a tiny breeze.   Giggle...here I am in all my glory!  LOL!  This is me most days...hair in a ponytail and no makeup.  :)
I spent the early part of the day painting trim for the upstairs bathroom.  I can't wait to get that thing finished.
No sewing for me today.  I had planned on it but things just didn't work out.  I cleaned and just piddled around.  My SIL called and said that they would be stopping by sometime today so I decided to clean instead of sew.  :)

I'm still hoping to get the last 5 blocks pieced by the end of the weekend.  I'm not sure what fabric I will use for the borders or if I will even add a border.  I'll just have to wait until I get the center pieced to decide.

Richard finished up at the church today!!!  The building was 106 years old and in really bad condition so they made the decision to tear it down and rebuild it.

So here she is....  Our first church service in it is planned for July 21.  I can't wait.
The inside...  The carpet layers will be there on Monday to install it.
This photo might be a little hard to see but Hunter, Leo, and if you look real close you will see Jazz, the yorkie all trying to squeeze in the recliner.  :)  Silly boys!!!
Even though I haven't done any sewing today I have been pondering on what I will work on after I get my Star Gazing quilt finished.  Tumblers?  UFO's?  New Project?  I know I really need to work on some UFO's but sometimes they just are not any fun are they?  Do you plan your projects ahead while working on another or just do whatever hits you at the time?

Sleepless nights have paid off...

Another sleepless night...it is 1:08am and I am wide awake! :( This is driving me crazy! So I've done what I always do when I can't sleep, SEW! They are all finished! All 224 Courthouse Steps!! Can you believe that???

224!!!
I never meant to finish these anytime soon but there is nothing else to do during these sleepless nights except to work on them. All of my other sewing projects and fabrics are in the new house, so the only thing that I have in here is one machine, these strips, mat/ruler/rotary cutter.
Now I don't have a clue as to when I will sew these together. There are so many of them that I will probably take them out to the new house so I will have plenty of room to lay them all out. But first I have some other things that need to be finished up that are already out there waiting for me. I mentioned before that I was paper piecing these and I'll tell you why. Most of these pieces were just scraps and some where strips. The scraps were all just a bunch of odd sizes and I really didn't want to go through the whole part of measuring every little piece. This way I could just pick it up and sew, perfect when you can't sleep and are too tired to concentrate. :) Anyway, I made a huge mess when I was trimming them up and Donkey had to get right under my feet. I looked down and he was covered! LOL! Crazy cat! Poor Donkey is not doing too well, he has glaucoma and it is pretty bad so I don't let him outside much now. I'm afraid that he will not be able to see well and get hurt. So he now spends his days inside doing exactly this...
And of course, Jasper had to get a pic taken too! Isn't he so cute? I didn't get a photo of Smokey but he was snoozing in the recliner and snoring very loud! :)And last a photo of Zoey before she went home. Hunter had some clothes and a quilt on the couch and Zoey just made a bed out of them. She was so happy to see my sister when she picked her up. I'm off to clean up my mess and maybe do some laundry or watch some tv.

Starting another kit!

Well.....I was up again at 4:30am! This makes the second morning in a row that the phone rang about this time! But this time it was a call about Andrew's uncle. I guess he has had a stroke because at that time they were loading him in the ambulance. A few years ago he had a bad stroke and has to walk with a walker or cane now. Andrew's aunt picked him up to go to the hospital, I feel bad for not being there with Andrew because they are very close. This is my ex-husband's brother, they call him HOSS. Anyway, he and his wife are very good people and I do pray that he pulls through this okay. Andrew assured me that I didn't need to go with him but he also knows that all he needs to do is call and I will be there for him. Anyway, I'm fully awake and I will call Andrew's cell in a little while to check on him and Hoss.

Since I finished that other quilt top Sunday night I decided to start working on another kit. My choices are limited right now because most of them are boxed up and up in my new sewing room. My stairs are still too tacky to walk on them, I guess because of all of this rain they don't seem to be drying quickly and I put very thin coats of stain on them. Enough about the stairs.... This is a kit that I've had for a couple of years it is called "Carpet of Flowers" and measures 83x100. I spent most of the day yesterday sewing........and napping! :) The entire quilt is made from strip sets so I got them ALL sewn together!!! Now I will probably spend today pressing them. I detest pressing but it has to be done. But I think what I really dread is subcutting all of the strip sets. As you can see this quilt is very "Girly" and very "Spring" looking. BTW, I already had this kit cut out, not sure when I had done all of the cutting but it was nice to just be able to up it up and start sewing on it.

Every morning I always get up before everyone else and I always go through the house checking on everyone else that is asleep to make sure they are okay...I guess it's just a "mommy thing" I know it is probably cruel to take photos of people that early and while they are asleep but I couldn't help it. Hunter was talking about Army men in his sleep. :) He just looked so precious to me, I just wanted to squeeze him but I let him sleep. He always sleeps with his eyes not completely closed.Oh and of course all of this camera flashing woke Jazz up! He sleeps every night with Hunter. For some reason he sleeps down at the foot of the bed not up where he can snuggle with Hunter. Jazz sleeps with Hunter and Smokey sleeps in my room. He sleeps on my side of the bed in the floor straight across from my head. He doesn't like to sleep in the bed because it is too hard for him to get in and out of it so he just sleeps in the floor. Smokey is my baby, he makes very step that I do. When I sit down he is at my feet in the floor, if I go to the bathroom he is right there too. Oh and Smokey does not like the storms that we have been having. He whines and shakes the whole time so you have to hold and pet him to calm him down.Well it is now 5:40am so I had better start breakfast and call Andrew. If all goes well today I hope to get all of the pressing of the strip sets finished and maybe tomorrow I can subcut them.

Signs Of Spring Blocks...

I'm getting a slow start this morning. Been up since 5:30am, got Hunter ready and off to school, Richard up and out the door, but just seems like I can't get woke up. So I'm sipping extra coffee this morning. Richard went to pick up the rest of our drywall. We had to pick it up in two trips because there was just too much to haul in one load on the trailer that we have. So he should be back in a hour or two. I'm getting really excited seeing the drywall going up.

Last night I actually did some sewing! I mentioned in my last post that I had a UFO that had all of the blocks pieced, they just needed to be sewn together into a top. Well....I started sewing them into rows last night. This one is called "Signs Of Spring" a very simple pattern to do so the blocks go together quickly. I had an odd amount of blocks....43, so I did a 6x7 setting with one block leftover. I had all of the rows laid out and just wasn't happy with the size, so I have decided that hopefully today I will make 5 more blocks so that I can make it 6x8 and add a border. That will make is bed size. Not sure what fabric I will use on the border but I'm thinking that I will just make a simple straight border. I have already moved some of my yardage out to the new house so I may have some trouble finding a border fabric that I like for it.

As you can see Donkey and Jazz loved the quilt! This is when I was laying them out and I just couldn't keep them off of it. Donkey is doing so much better. He still walks a little odd, like he is a little humped up in the back end and stiff. He has almost gained all of his weight back too. And Jazz, he is as wild as ever! As you can see in the photo he needs brushed! You can brush him out and he just starts rolling around and messes it all up again.

It is supposed to be near 70 today! So I'm hoping I can get myself good and awake and spend a little time outside with my animals! I do miss not getting to spend time with them when it is colder.

FNSI and Don King?

I'm sure most of you are thinking...Don King??? Well what do you think? Do you see a resemblance? LOL! This is my little Smokey and he needs a haircut in the worst way! We thought he looked like Don King, a troll or maybe one of those old pencil toppers that had the hair. What do you think? Do we have a celebrity lookalike??? LOL!

Last night was Friday Night Sew-In and I got a couple of things accomplished. I did get the binding finished on this HUGE quilt for mom. She was very happy to get it and it was finally finished. It has the softest muslin on the back and is so soft.

I also got this little wall hanging loaded on the frame. I thought I would get it quilted last night because it was so small but I was wrong. First I tried to use invisible thread and that was a mess. I couldn't see to thread my machine and then I needed to adjust my tension for that and I really didn't want to mess with that last night, so I just changed the thread!!! Now the purple thread looks great but it is a different weight than I usually use and the bobbin is not perfect. So today I will adjust it a little and hopefully get it done!!!
And not to leave out Jazz and Donkey....Jazz all clean and brushed after his bath.
And my precious Donkey....as you can see he can't get comfortable. He has a tube on both sides so it makes it hard for him to lay. He is still fevered but not as bad as he was. He is eating good so that makes me happy. He goes back to the vet on Monday to have it flushed out again.
Have to go to the grocery store. :( Richard will be taking me since our road is soooooo slick and it makes me too nervous to drive when it is like this. But I also don't like him going to the store with me. When he does we end up getting very little on my list, more junk food and he is always in a hurry! Anyone else have a husband like this????

Keeping Busy

Got up around 5am this morning, did a few little household chores before I sat down to sew. Richard has spent the day helping some friends of ours so it was just me and Hunter today. I have been trying to stay busy to keep my mind off of Andrew so much. Hunter doesn't go back to school until the 3rd so I let him sleep in. Actually he got up at 10:30am!

So I put in "Gone With the Wind" and started sewing! I haven't really had time to work on Bonnie's mystery because of all the sewing that I did before Christmas. Today I got Part One finished and pressed!
Part Two, as you can see here, is cut and ready to be sub cut and sewn! May work on that tonight.
Part Three, the paper-pieced string blocks are already finished! So I'm feeling good about this so far.

Last night I finished up the binding on the Pot Holders that I was working on for Christmas, most of those didn't get finished in time. But that is fine, I will save them or use them myself! I may make a few more of them as I get time and save them for the new house, whenever we get moved in. It will still be a few months on that!Oh and the other day, I stopped by Walmart and found this on Clearance!! They are Thomas Kinkade Potholders and Oven Mitt panels! I bought all they had which was 3 panels for $2.22 each! Each panel has 2 oven mitts and 2 potholders. I thought they might make great gifts for new year or to use for myself! (Actually I took this photo off of Ebay, because I was too lazy to take a photo)And look at this little pretty!!!! Another Jim Shore!! This was a gift from my brother and SIL! I love it!!! (Again, this photo is from Ebay, being lazy again! ) Anyway, I do love it and it meant alot that they thought to get it for me. So thanks so very much John and Kellie!!!I will now leave you with some cute little photos! Of course another one of Donkey laying in his favorite spot! I think he likes laying up there so that he can keep an eye on everyone! And my precious little Jazzy! Isn't he just sooooooo cute! He was pouting because he just had a bath and Richard used the blowdryer to dry him! :) So glad he is back home! Now since I have been sewing most of the day....I need to finish supper, which is just spaghetti and garlic bread. And also need to straighten up the living room and clean the bathroom! :( Giggle, I've tried to con Hunter into cleaning the bathroom today, even tried to pay him and he said "No" and that I was too cheap! Hmmm......may have to make him help me just for meanness! :)

Working late

It's 3:30am and I can't sleep! :( We went to bed about 10:30pm and I woke up at 1am, got up and did a little sewing! Remember the pot holders that I pieced yesterday? Well, I quilted 7 of them tonight and ran out of the heat batting stuff (too tired to remember the name of it) so I guess I will pick up enough to finish the others if we can get out on Saturday. We have a lot of snow up here on this hill! Anyway, I thought I made 10 but somehow I ended up with 12, but that is okay, I can keep a set for myself. Now, I just need to finish the other 5, bind them all and those gifts will be finished. I still need to make the rice bags and maybe some coasters and the small things will be done. Yesterday I finished the binding on that lap quilt that I quilted and it is ready for it's owner to pick up. Now I have one more lap quilt, mom's HUGE quilt, and a quilt that my sister is buying as a gift for who we hope will be her future in-laws! :) Anyway those 3 still need to be quilted and the bindings done! :( But I can do it.....or at least, I think I can!

We got several inches of snow and ice yesterday. Richard and Hunter were out trying to build a snowman, it was hard to do because the snow was frozen so hard.

I let Jazz out to use the potty and he wasn't even heavy enough to break through the snow! He was sliding all over the place out there on that frozen snow. Then he came back in and passed out on the couch with Festus! Most of the time Festus would rather stay outside than inside but it has been so cold the past couple of weeks that he has spent a lot of time inside.
When I woke up at 1am Hunter was awake, in his room playing with legos!!! He said he couldn't sleep either. Here it is 3:43 and he is still awake! So I guess I had better try to get him to bed and get in bed myself!

Getting things ready...

The Friday Night Sew-in is tomorrow!!!!! I'm sooooo ready! I have sewn more this past month than I have sewn this whole year!!! Hopefully 2011 will be a better year for me, there are so many quilts that I would like to get done.

At this point, I'm really not sure what I will be working on tomorrow night for the sew-in, it all depends on what I get done during the day. I still have alot of quilting to get done before Christmas.

Today I quilted a small lap quilt, but I can't show it until after Christmas. I still need to get the binding on it. I also have 2 more lap quilts to finish before Christmas and one king size quilt. Two of them are pieced, just need quilted and the other one is would only take about 30 minutes to finish the top. So as you can see I have plenty of sewing to get done for the Sew-in.

Now I will leave you with a photo of Smokey and Jazz! They just got a bath and they were cold.

They are my sweet little babies! Jazz is hyper and will not sit still and Smokey just wants to be loved on and will stay in your lap all day if you pet him.
