I had my first radiation treatment this morning. :( The doctor said I would be toxic 7-10 days. I have dreaded this for months but in a way I'm glad to be getting it over with. For those of you that missed my December post, I have Graves Disease, which is a thyroid disorder and I have 3 tumors on my thyroid that can not be removed. So that is what this radiation is for to kill the thyroid and tumors. My biggest problem will be not being able to touch my kids. Hunter sleeps with me after Richard goes to work so I'm not sure how we will handle that tonight. He even told me to use rubber gloves when handling the food that I cook. I just can't wait for this to be over and it has just started...
On to some quilting things... Yesterday I had two doctors appointments. I was so tired by the time I got home. In between appointments I stopped by The Attic (junk store) and picked up a few things. I bought these 2 twin size sheets that I thought I would cut in half, then quilt and donate for the babies at the doctors office in town. They are very cute and they were unopened.
I also picked up some, actually 20, men's cotton shirts. I saw on the Quiltville site where she cuts them up and uses then in quilts. For some reason plaid fabric is hard for me to find around here so I bought these to use and they were only 2/$1
After my long day with appointments, I stopped by the mailbox on the way home. I got this wonderful package from Cathi (Celtic Knots) She sent me some wonderful Civil War fabrics and the Dear Jane cd. I didn't get a photo of the cd but it is in my computer right now. I have printed off a few blocks but haven't started on any yet.
Hopefully, I will get alot of sewing done in the next few days. With this radiation I will be off to myself alot. So maybe sewing and blogging will keep my mind busy.
Oh and one more thing... I just got my DSL hooked up about an hour ago!!!!! Finally no more dial up!!!

Oh, those shirts are a FIND. The thrift stores around here run really expensive :(
I'm sorry about the radiation. Maybe having a calendar to mark off the days would help the kids know that they can eventually have Mom back again?
Kristie,
Well, you're not toxic to us! I'm glad to hear this will be behind you soon.
I love your sheets. What a nice and cute idea! Good job on the shirts too! It just makes me feel so good to recycle!
Congratulations on your dsl. You will love it! Yippee!

How many of these treatments will you have to endure? As long as they do the job - that is the main thing. Knowing you can not hugs the little boys (and the big boy Richard) would be agonizing.
You made some excellent purchases with those sheets and the shirts. You will definitely get your moneys worth from the shirts. At our local thrift stores they sell for much much more.
Take it easy, post when you can.

That was really a find on the shirts ,here there 6.00 can't wait to see what you make from them .
The radiation may be tough in that you can't touch the kids for a few days but in the end it will be well worth it .hang on it will be over before you know it .
Hi! I linked to you from Quilting Pirate and I have to say I love your quilts. I'm sorry about your thyroid and the radiation you have to go through. I read the first page of your blog and your life sounds alot like mine with horses and kids!
I have congenital heart disease and just had open heart on January 30/31st. It was two days. I see my specialist every three months now and will hopefully go back to every year after this year! Good Luck to Andrew!
Will you glow in the dark?!? Kidding of course. I hope you haven't long before everthing is back to normal.
My prayers are with you.
I hope you get through this quickly, not to get tooo personal but you know its good to double flush the commode as well as the other precautions you are doing.
I can imagine that you are glad to get this radiation thing finally started, At least now you know the end is in sight, rather than having to wait longer to get started with it. I'm sure it is tough not being able to touch your kids and hubby, but soon you will be smothering them - and they you!! Good luck with it all.
Great find with the shirts!
Hang in there! When I had radio active iodine to destroy my thyroid, it was just one dose and lasted 24 hours but I didn't have tumors.
Believe me, once you get it all straight and are feeling more like you used to feel, you will be glad you did this. I will be thinking of you. And I CAN hug from a far so here is what my grandkids send me.....xoxoxoxox........kisses are a bonus!
take it easy hun! I didn't realize how radiation worked?
So, you are following Bonnie's lead on the shirts :) She is cute on how she collects her own. I bet you will love her new book coming out in the fall!
Yah for great mail days!!
Hugs.
Good pic for the post. Too funny. Keep your sense of humor! Hang in there....

Kristie, I like the calendar idea for marking off the days...might be easier for Hunter to understand. I hope they pass quickly for you all...but hopefully this will be the only time? Great find on the shirts and love the idea for the quilt. We'll be here in blogland and in e-mails if you need anything!

I am so jealous - I was at Goodwill yesterday looking for shirts JUST LIKE THOSE - and they were $7 each! At that price it is cheaper for me to buy yardage at JoAnn's with a coupon - and far less work.
If your blog starts glowing - we will know why. Hang in there - this too shall pass and hopefully you will be less tired and feel better. Although it is amazing what you DO get done now!!!
You may be toxic, but we still like you!
Sorry to hear about the toxic, I didn't realize that radiation worked quite like that, hopefully it won’t be too hard on you and the boys.
My brother has Graves... he is on medication. My friend also went through what you are going through. It has worked well for her. Hang in there!
You may be toxic now, but it won't last long. The calendar is a good idea, especially for Hunter. Soon you will be feeling so much better.
Love those shirts. I never seem to find anything like that in the shops around here. That was a great find.
I'm sending my hugs to you and the boys through the computer. Will they do for now?
The 10 days will fly by.
love and hugs xxxx
Sure hope you are feeling like yourself again soon. I'm sure this will be a long week for you. We're all praying for you.
Kristie,
You're in my thoughts! I'm sorry you have to do the radiation but I hope that this will help with make you feel better in the long run. I'm sending good thoughts your way.
Now that you have dsl you'll never want to use dial up again! Your thrifted finds look good. I just love to thrift. My daughter is only 4 but she loves it too so I have a little buddy to take with me. Thrifting is even more fun with a buddy!
How's it going, Kristie? I'm thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. It'll be over soon and you can get back to hugging your family.
I'm still sending the book but life has been kinda hectic around here. My goal is to get to the post office on Saturday. Will let you know.
I tried to leave a comment yesterday but something happened and it didn't go.
I hope this time goes fast for you and that you are able to hold your kids again. You are not toxic to us and I am sending you hugs.
