My Saturday!

Not alot of quilting going on this weekend. I have been doing some hand quilting on this quilt. This is a top that my mom had and is the only thing that she has of her grandmothers. It is very scrappy, the points don't meet, and some of the blocks are different sizes, but it is very special to us. And honestly it feels very good to quilt a top that my Great Grandmother hand pieced.

It has been very hot here today so I have been lazy. Yesterday was the last day of school for the boys. Andrew went to his dad's for the weekend. I miss him so much when he goes. Hunter got new sand for his sandbox and has played most of the day in it.
And of course he talked dad into playing with him. Richard will kill me when he sees this photo!!! :)
Then this afternoon we decided to build the center wall for the upstairs. Since it is a 40 ft span we were going to do it in two sections. So Richard built the 20 ft section of 6x6 beams. This would be very heavy and 12ft tall. I am afraid of heights so I told him I just couldn't get up there to help. The last time I got up there it was horrible and I started crying and it took me forever to get down. And I only got down then because he threatened to call the fire department to get me down! Anyway, my sister decided she would help him stand this wall up! She is soooooo sweet but it didn't go very well...

In this photo you can see where they are starting to lift the wall...

And in this photo you can see where it is starting to fall....
After these photos it only got worse...Richard said there was no way they could get it up with just the two of them.........so up the ladder I go, crying every step and him laughing...I get in the middle and we lift......and it starts to slid and then breaks in the middle! No one was hurt but I'm sure we will all have some sore muscles in the morning. So my center wall is still laying up there broken in half. Really not that big of deal, he can fix it and he will have some of his friends to come help him stand it up.

It took me a while to get back down!!!! Crying all the way back down the ladder!!! :)

Anyway, Richard is watching a UFC fight on PPV and I think I am going to do a little more hand quilting and head to bed...

You poor girl! Where are Richard's friends? Get them over there, and stay off the high spots until the roof is on and you can get up there from inside, via steps!

You were a trooper for helping. Bless your heart.

Well that photo just proves that all men are kids at heart.

well done for facing your fears again and going up that ladder. You are braver than I am.
I'm sorry it was all in vain though.

love and hugs xxx

You gotta stay off that roof. It's just not a good place for you. Everytime I hear about either of you up there, I think about Richard falling off. I know, it's gotta be done, but you're freaking me out! Nice hand quilting, Kristie!

You be careful there girl...the daughter of some friends of ours was on their roof (she went up there in place of her Dad) and fell off..hit concrete driveway. She broke many bones and will have to endure several surgeries and at least one year in recoverey. Let some one eles do it...

Kristie,
I love your great-grandmother's quilt and can imagine what a joy it is for you to do the quilting. Busy days at your house, I see!
Best wishes - Lurline.

YIKES on the wall lifting part!! I know it was hard to help, but at least that part is done for now!

What a great way to feel in touch with your grandmothers quilt!

I know what hot feels like and what air conditioning means :) Hope you are staying cool today!
