A quick update...

Look what was gifted to me!!!!
Totally not expected but appreciated!  See....there is a family that was in need of firewood and we were giving them slabs from the sawmill to burn this winter.  This helps us both out as they need it for firewood and we need them out of the way of the sawmill.  The slabs pile up really fast when Richard is sawing on his days off and it is hard for him to move around the mill with a huge pile of slabs.  So yesterday there was a knock at the door and it was the lady with a few garbage bags filled with poly-fil and batting!!!  She said it belonged to his grandmother and she no longer sewed and they wanted me to have it in exchange for the slabs.  I told her that we didn't give them the slabs expecting something in return but I really was excited that she was giving it to me.  :)  I will use it!!!  I thought it was very sweet.

I have been a little under the weather lately so my sister stopped by with a couple little gifts.  A plaque for my sewing room that reads, "You are SEW special"  I love it and I will make sure that I hang it where I can easily see it.  Also she gave me a key ring and a pair of earrings.  They are sewing machines and they say, "SINGER" on them.  :)  I love them!!!
Not a whole lot of sewing going on here as I mentioned I had not been feeling well.  I started with a sinus infection which eventually moved down to my teeth.  I ended up with 3 abscessed teeth towards the back and they pulled one of them on Friday.  Still having some issues with it but feeling better everyday.

Not sure if I posted photos of my new leader/ender project or not but here it is....I will use a scrappy background too.  I had just cut these two to see how I was going to like it.  I have several more of them cut and ready to sew.
The windmill blocks measure 4" so I will need several hundred of them to make a bedsize quilt.  I'm in no hurry so I will just enjoy the process.
I am also still working on my 2nd turtle quilt...well I haven't for the past few days but I had been.  I will post updated photos of it soon too.

Playing with blocks...

It's going on 1am and it has been a long night so far.  A friend of the family passed away tonight and it just makes it hard to go to sleep.  Crystal, the girl that had the baby shower on Sunday that I made the quilts for, it was her mother.  Crystal's first baby is due in less than 7 weeks and she was wanting so bad for her mom to see the baby.  My prayers are with Crystal as she is having this baby alone as the father is not in the picture and now she has lost her mother.  Crystal doesn't drive and she and my sister, Chantal are best friends.  Chantal took her to the hospital to see her mom before she passed away.  When Chantal called me, she and Crystal both were messes.  They are both pregnant and I just worry about them being so upset.

So as everyone else in the house sleeps, I have been upstairs in my sewing room playing around with a few blocks.  In my last post I pieced a couple of basket blocks but wasn't pleased with them enough to make a quilt with them.  Tonight I pieced a different basket block.  I made a quilt several years ago using this pattern but much larger.  This one measures 4"
I'm thinking that I like it but I will play around a little more with the size before making a bunch of them for a quilt.
Then I played around with some strings and made this block.  I noticed the other day that I have a ton of strings so I can see some kind of string quilt in the near future, but I'm not sure it will be this one.
I used this green in the block but I'm not sure it would really show up that well in a whole quilt.  Anyway...as I said, I was just playing around.
I also worked a little on the turtle quilt too.  I'll post more photos of it next time.  I'm going to try to go to bed...

Staying busy....

I'm in the process of making another turtle quilt.  A friend of mine asked me to make one for her so I have a third of the body done and the rest of it is cut out and ready to assemble.  I love these quilts.
I can't wait to find out what my sister is having so that I can get started on baby quilts for her.  :)  Chantal is now 13 weeks!  She had an appointment yesterday and all was well.  The heartbeat was 155.  Chantal's BP was fine but her pulse was 108.  Her pulse usually runs fast as she has a mild heart condition and they plan on watching her very close.
A few nights ago I was thinking about baskets so I got up the next morning and pieced two.  Both of these were printed off of EQ.  After making them, I do like them but I probably will not do anything further with them other than make pot holders or something of that sort.
I got a new machine!  Well...it was given to me by a dear friend from Church.  She is making a donation quilt for the Christian school in town and I am helping her out with it.  She wanted to give me this machine and I tried every way in the world not to accept it but she insisted.  She still had it in the box, I think she said she had used it once or twice but liked her computerized machine much better.  If my count is correct then this makes me 24 machines.  :)
Here is the second baby quilt that I gave Crystal for her baby shower.  Crystal is my sister's best friend.  She and my sister are both pregnant.  Her baby is due December 7th and Chantal's is due April 20th.  Some sad news for Crystal, this is her first child and her mother is in the hospital right now and not doing very well at all.  Her kidneys are starting to shut down and she is very confused.  Crystal is very upset and worried about her mom right now.
Things have been a little crazy around here this past week.  I've been a little under the weather with some sinus/allergy stuff.  I think I am feeling a tad better this morning even though I've had less than 2 hours of sleep last night.  Richard started his new job last Monday and it is day shift and his other was night shift so this has me all out of whack.  I never deal with change very well.  It will take me a few weeks to get back on schedule again.

Update on Hunter's arm....if you look close in the photo below you will see that it has grown back as a "slightly upward angle"  that is the doctor's exact words.  It is much more obvious in person.  He goes back in a few days to see if it needs to be broke again and reset.  He said that there is a good possibility that since he is a kid that it will straighten out with new bone growth within a year or so.  He also said that if he was an adult, it would have to be reset, no questions asked.  So I'm praying for good news when he goes back in a few days.
Time to get Hunter up for school and then I am heading back to bed for a few hours...

Quilting progress...

I got the turtle quilt quilted  several days ago and love how it turned out.  A dear friend of mine picked this pattern out as a gift for her 1st great grandson.  She was very pleased with the final result.
Another friend of mine saw the quilt and wants me to make one for her too.  She is also giving it as a gift.  She wants it to look as close to this one as I can get it.  So expect to see another one on my blog soon.
I also made 4 burp cloths.  My sister's best friend is having a baby in December and her shower is this weekend.  I plan on giving her 2 baby quilts and 4 burp cloths.  She is having a little girl.  :)  I have one of the quilts completed as it only needed binding and the other is in the process of being quilted.  I will post photos of them soon.
I also made a Fall arrangement for my front door.  :)  As you can see I used an old horse collar and just some things that I had already here.
Since the weather is cooling off we picked what was left in the garden.  Temps got down into the 30's the other night with scattered frost.
Today was Richard's first day at his new job!  He is still staying PRN at his old job too.  Today was just a bunch of HR stuff.  Andrew also had a very important job interview this morning.  It will be a few weeks before he hears anything about it.

I will post more quilt photos as I get them finished.
