Loss of a loved one and some hand piecing...

The past several days have been really rough.  Richard's precious grandmother, Juanita passed away in the wee hours on May 3rd.  She lived a long life of 93 years.  She was very precious to him as she raised him.  She was a very strong Christian lady that is much better off in heaven than on this old earth.  I loved her and I will miss her.  I believe in my heart that Richard would not be the man he is today had it not been for her.  He is a good man with great manners and lots of old-fashion morals.  Remember Richard in your prayers as the next few days will be difficult for him.  He stays busy anyway but he is really trying to occupy himself.  Men sometimes deal with things like that I guess.  It is 10:30pm right now and he is at the sawmill sawing up logs in the dark.  He has one of those lights that strap on his head so that he can see what he is doing.  Not sure how late he will saw but I will wait up on him.  :)

I have been working on some handwork to keep my hands busy while waiting and sitting.  It is Lucy Boston's Patchwork of the Crosses.  I love it so far!  This is a long term project as I am slow at hand stitching.

Here is one of the blocks.  I don't have it all sewn together in this photo but it is now.  :)
This is the first block that I completed.
This one will be finished up tonight!  :)
Now to dig up fabric for the next block!!!

Andrew just got home about an hour ago.  He has been gone all week to Charleston, SC.  I sure missed him and I thank God for watching over him while he was gone.  This was a work related trip for him.  He will be off for the next 2 days for the viewing and funeral.

I guess that is all for now, I need to unpack his suitcase and do some laundry.

Machine Quilting...

I've been busy doing some machine quilting.  This first one belongs to my aunt.  Red and white quilts are always so striking.  I believe she is donating this quilt to help out a sick little girl.
This one just amazed me. It was hand pieced by a mentally handicapped lady.  It did have a few issues but I felt very Blessed to be the one quilting it and I enjoyed every stitch of it.  I even did the binding too.
This last one was also made by my aunt.  She made it for her granddaughter.
I hope to load another one on the frame tomorrow.  :)

What I've been doing...

I haven't posted for a while but if anyone is still reading I will try to post more regularly.  :)

My son, Andrew works with Autistic children and adults and he had one of his clients out on a shopping trip at a discount store.  He brought me home a quilt book!!!  It is an older book but has some really pretty quilts in it and one or two that I would like to make.  I can't tell you how excited that I was that he actually thought to buy me something "quilt related"  :)  I think he said he paid .49 for it and it is new.  :)  He was excited that he found it for me.
I quilted this crib quilt that my aunt made for a 2 yr old little girl that was in a horrible car accident and has a very long road ahead of her.
I also quilted this quilt for a dear friend of mine.  I owed her a quilting!  :)  She is the lady that gave me the 1906 Singer Treadle.  I think this is the 2nd quilt that she has ever made.
I've also been canning more stuff!  I had a bunch of apples in the freezer so I made some fried apples and canned them.  My house smelled sooooo good with with the cinnamon smell.  This is just a small portion of them.
I canned more chicken for casseroles and such.
And last but not least....4 pints of taco meat!  :)
I will be making more chicken soup this week and a few more apples too.
