My Weekend of Sewing!

My weekend started by ironing and cutting a bag of scraps! I usually try to keep them under control so it was time to cut! I cut them in various sizes but decided to cut this pile into 2 1/2 inch squares. I have made a few scraps quilts in the past several months and they called for 2 1/2 inch squares. I have a shoe box that I keep them in and I had used alot so it was time to fill it back up.

So after cutting them all up, I was having fun so I thought it was time to start another scrap quilt using the squares. Nothing major and I haven't decided exactly how I will set it up but I am making a ton of small 9 patches right now. As you can see here I have started sewing a bunch of them together. Now I have a huge pile to press and then finish making the 9 patches!

I also pressed the binding for a "4 patch flip" that is being quilted right now. Should be ready for the binding in about a week. I also pressed the binding for a "Hole in the Barndoor" too but it was just plain cream color so I didn't take a photo of it. :)

I have also been working on my applique blocks. I have a total of 6 of them that are completely finished. I'm not sure how many I will end up with, I will just make them until I get tired of the pattern and then I will call it done!
Donkey was helping me sew too! He kept knocking my things off of the table!!! But you just have to love him....I have discovered that Smokey likes quilts too! Everytime you turn around he is sleeping on one. Here he is on a stack of quilts that I keep on the end of the couch.
As I was running the vacuum, I sat Donkey's little cat thing up on the end table and he jumped right in. I left it up there for an hour or so because he was sleeping and I did not want to disturb him. But just look at some of the positions that he gets in.
Now if you look close in this one you will see 3 legs!! Now how comfortable would that be???
I'm off to do some laundry! :(((((((

Lots of scraps for you there! I so wish my stash was that big!

I have to love the positions Donkey gets into. I wish that I could get an indoor cat. I would love to have one to cuddle up with during these COLD nights!

That Donkey...he just loves you so much and wants to be near you...

Donkey had better watch out or Smokey will take over as Number 1 quilt inspector.

Have a fun week!

I can't imagine cutting up all those squares! Good job!!

Donkey is ADORABLE. I have never had a cat. I am not sure my poodle clan would appreciate a kitty taking over.

I am glad you are having fun getting your strips organized for another quilt. I found a neat pattern other day on a blog for 2 1/2" jelly rolls. Have to find url and email it to you. Now wouldn't that be neat if we was that limber as Donkey. Now Smokey is right at home on that pile of quilts. Didn't take him to long to adjust.

What fun you had with your scraps! I can't even imagine how Donkey can sleep like that - he has limbs all over the place! It looks so funny!

You were so busy! And that would be such fun to just cut scraps all day. I don't think I have enough scraps to do that. Donkey is such a ham - that cannot be comfy to lay like that, but he must think so!

Not sure how Donkey sleeps in the positions he does, but I sure love seeing pictures of him, Smokey, Old Jack, your family and the new house you are building. I check your blog daily. Have a good day. Winona

That position that Donkey is sleeping in does not look comfortable but animals sleep in the strangest positions.

I am impressed with all the scraps you cut. How do you determine what sizes to cut?

I have seen your blog several times from comments made on blogs I follow so I thought it was high time I came over for a visit. I'm "sew" glad I did. I love it here. May I visit often?

Well, I'll be darned. I never thought about ironing my scraps. I keep a drawer of only scraps to pull from because I do samples of embroidered designs, fancy stitches and also use scraps to use as "starters" on piecing quilts, especially angles. I like your idea of ironing them. Okay, as organized as I thought I was, this is a place where organizing needs to happen.

Hope to get to know you as time goes on. Love your blog, your four legged babies and your projects.

Love your helper! What a cutie, wish I could curl up so little. I think the pile of little 2 1/2 square has such potential, I have been loving this system since I have been doing it.

Wow you've been busy since I last visited!! Your scrap quilts are gorgeous. I love scrap quilts.
I missed what you did to your hand but I'm pleased it is on the mend. It certainly hasn't hampered your sewing which is good.
I always like to see how people handle their scraps. I keep meaning to sort mine.. one of these days.

Boy it looks cold there. Don't think I've ever seen a road look like a skating rink before..scary stuff. The boys seem to be enjoying it though.
