Things happen for a reason!

Antique 1 You know how sometimes things happen for a reason...well, that is how I feel today. Let me start with yesterday evening...

Now most of you know that I enjoy a very simple life, I HATE stress and being in debt!!! Richard and I have worked very hard since we have been married to pay off our debts. We bought and paid for our land, our current home, and so far our new home that we are building and all of our autos. So here is the story...Richard has been on to me for sometime to trade my car in and buy a new one. I really didn't want to because I like my car even though it is OLD!! Yes, my car is a 1994 Buick Regal!!! 14 years old but only has 88,000 miles on it, which is great for one that old. It has plenty of room, leather, all power and I just like how it drives and rides. But I guess, I do need a newer auto, Richard says that it is getting old and things are going to start tearing up on it. After getting stressed and crying last night I decided he was right we did need a new car. I honestly don't think I want a NEW car, maybe one that is a year or two old, but Richard said we needed a new car.

I called Hurricane Chevy and talked to the salesman he took my info and said..."Bring $500 down payment, my old car, and come pick out something!!!" Richard had to work this morning and I was going to meet him in town and make the 2 hour drive to the car lot. I started the morning by getting all the paperwork that I needed, like the car title. We keep the titles and things in a safe. Now the keys have been in the same place for 8 years!!!! I go to get the keys and they are gone!!!! I look everywhere and can't find them, I call Richard and he says we would just have to bust the lock! Andrew and I drag the safe outside and he picks up a cinderblock and busts the lock, get the title and head to town. Stop at the bank to withdraw the down payment and on to the car wash clean the car. Still had a few minutes to kill before Richard got off work, so we headed to Walmart to look around. Mom called the cell, and asked if I wanted her to pick up the boys so they wouldn't get so tired waiting around at the car lot. As she was pulling out of the parking lot, I was going to run down to the dollar store.....my car would not start!!!!! As many years as I've had this car, nothing has ever gone wrong with it!!! So I didn't call Mom to come back because I figured Richard would be calling soon and he could get it started. So I walked back in Walmart to walk around and wait! Finally, Richard called and said he was held up at one of the mines which was a few hours away!!! Now when I arrived at Walmart it was 11:15am, Richard arrived 2pm! He and one of his friends came and he ended up calling another friend of his that owns a garage and they decided it sounded like the starter. Took the started off and took it to buy another one and in the end it wasn't the starter!!! Anyway, my car was towed out of the Walmart parking lot at about 7:30pm!!!! Yes, I was there the whole time!!!! Jerry from the garage just called and said he hooked the car up to the computer and it said "Theft deterent" (sp?) He said it was my key! My key has a sensor on it and I guess somehow it messed up!!!

So why did this happen with the keys to the safe and my car???? I'm thinking for some reason we were not supposed to make the trip today!!! What do you think? As I sat there today, I kept thinking...All things happen for a reason, maybe we would have had an accident or something.

Oh and the worse part of my 7 hour visit at Walmart!!!! This Walmart doesn't even have FABRIC!!!!!!!

Hopefully, if all goes well, we will be going down next weekend to buy a car! Right now all I want to do is get a shower and sew!!!!!

ORRRRR........maybe you aren't supposed to go get a new car! My van is a '98. It has 165,000 miles on it. I CAN'T afford a new one, or different one, for that matter. Yay, I know, a month ago I had a run of bad luck, but things do wear out. Replacing the parts is still cheaper than another monthly payment.

I am wearing out too, but I'm glad Louie is shopping for a 'new' wife. If you believe things happen for a reason, maybe there IS a reason.

Happy sewing!

Probably the main reason Richard wants you to get a new car is so he won't worry if something happens while you are driving it. but I agree paying for repair work is much cheaper than monthly car payments...especially with so few miles you have on your present car.

Hang is there and smile...things will be better.

Your right, everything happens for a reason. I am sure Richard would like to see you get a new car for reasons like this, but who knows why it happened? You may never know, glad everything is okay though and that things eventually worked out!

Sounds like that day should be a full week. I drove a 1987 truck up until last year with 210,000 miles on it. I loved that truck. My son had an accident with his, we gave him my truck, my husband was going to fix up the wrecked one. It was only a couple of years newer. There was to much to do on it so we bought a new truck last September. First new truck I had in 20 years. I love this new truck, you know you are not going to get stuck, they really do make them better and safer, but I hate paying for it, being in debt, etc. I believe in things do happen for a reason. Who knows maybe next week there will be a better deal. In the meantime do a lot of sewing, keeps you from being to stressed.

Wow, that was quite a day! I had a Buick Riveria and had a hard time getting rid of it, ended up selling it to my mom, so it's still in the family!

Did you send the quilting books yet? I hadn't received them, but I was on vacation for a few days so wanted to make sure they didn't get lost or anything. Just let me know! Thanks, Kristie!

Kristie, What a day that was for you!
It just was not meant to happen on that day, like you say for a reason.
Hope all goes well when you do decide to buy your new car.
Hugs julia

I know that's not a fab day for ya, but what did you buy at walmart? That's the real question here. You always find the best stuff. I think it's sweet Richard wants you to have a new car!

Dear Kristie,
Thank you so much for the award - it is nice to know we can have such lovely quilty times with friends from the other side of the world!
I wouldn't mind a new car, but mine is not 4 years old yet - you'll enjoy your new one.
'Bye - Lurline.

Oh what a day - too bad you couldn't have been stuck at a fabric store (although maybe that would have been worse?). Glad it's not something really, really serious, and yes, everything happens for a reason.

Wow! I do believe things happen for a reason and I am sure it will all work out. 7 hours at a Walmart with NO FABRIC..... How ever did you survive? Glad you are back home safe and sound.

OH, man! Re-think the selling of the car! Those are definite signs!

I got a new car at Easter and even thought I love it, there are times that I still miss the old one, even though it had issues :)

I'm with ya on not wanting any debt. I was and still am having trouble with my Windstar (2001). I was trying to make it last till this summer, but I had so much trouble with it this past winter, I had to get another reliable car right then. I didn't buy new, but got a great deal on a model I could not have afforded if it was new. I'm glad I got it. They were able to fix my Windstar but said I shouldn't use it for my main transportation. So it's become my back up car. I'm sure you will like whatever you get.
